Guest Author: The Leveys As the New Year draws near, we pause to appreciate the depth of connection that we share with our many circles of friends, colleagues, students, and fellow explorers from around the world who are members of our Thought for the Day community. We celebrate the many ways we have touched each others lives and affirmed the deeper dimensions of the life, love, and wisdom that we share. In that spirit, we offer this "suite" of reflections with our wishes and prayers that for each of us there is much to be grateful for from the old year, and many blessings awaiting us all in the New Year. "In separateness lies the world's great misery, in compassion lies the world's true strength." -- The Buddha " If a living system is suffering from ill health, the remedy is to connect it with more of itself." --Francisco Varela "In a real sense all life is inter-related. All persons are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the inter-related structure of reality." --Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. "When we seek for connection, we restore the world to wholeness. Our seemingly separate lives become meaningful as we discover how truly necessary we are to each other." -- Margaret Wheatley, "A mind committed to compassion is like an overflowing reservoir - a constant source of energy, determination and kindness. This is like a seed, that when cultivated, gives rise to many other good qualities, such as forgiveness, tolerance, inner strength and the confidence to overcome fear and insecurity. The compassionate mind is like an elixir; it is capable of transforming bad situations into beneficial ones. Therefore, we should not limit our expressions of love and compassion to our family and friends. Nor is the compassion only the responsibility of clergy, health care and social workers. It is the necessary business of every part of the human community." -- His Holiness the Dalai Lama Heartfelt thanks for your generous support!
